Many  enthusiasts  in  the  Toyota  community  (including  myself)  have  wondered  what  makes  a  die-hard  CruiserHead  so  well  ...  die  hard.  It  seems  that  many  LC  aficionados  will  stop  at  nothing  to  convince  others  that  the  true  LC  (think  40-200  series)  are  the  only  true  heavy  duty  vehicle.

It  was  January  and  frigid  outside.  I,  on  the  other  hand,  was  inside  and  warm.  I  stood  in  front  of  a  pile  of  metal.  Was  it  junk?  Trash?  Neither!  It  was  the foundation  for  some  of  the  best  products  for  your  Toyota  Land  Cruiser.  I  found  myself  standing  inside  Mike  Smith’s  shop  outside  of  Windsor,  Colorado.  Proprietor  of  Bump  It  Offroad,  Mike  is  a  craftsman  of  metal  and  a  lover  of  Land  Cruisers.

By  Saturday,  May  5,  a  record-setting  440  Toyota  4x4  trucks  had  descended  on  the East  Texas  wander  known  as  Barnwell  Mountain.  The  sprawling  forest  riddled  with  hillside  trails  is  home  to  the  annual  event,  now  in  its  13th  year.  With  over  800  people  in  attendance  coming  from  all  over  the  U.S.,  this  was  truly  a  significant  gathering  of  Toyota  brand  enthusiasts.  Vendor  attendance  was  also  at  an  all-time  high.

I  got  into  off-roading  by  a  stroke  of  luck.  As  your  typical  broke  college  kid  in  2006,  my  Ford  Explorer  was  on  its  last  leg  and  I  barely  had  a  budget.  A  family  friend  sold  me  his  ͚97  4Runner  for  a  ridiculously  low  price,  and  I  was  hooked  the  moment  I  drove  it  home.  The  next  few  years  I  lived  on  the  online  message  boards  -  getting  inspiration  from  other  builds  and  gaining  confidence  in  doing  some  of  the  work  myself.  I  majored  in  marketing,  and  I  wanted  to  use  this  truck  as  a  side  project  for  myself  -  seeing  if  I  could  create  a  value  proposition  worthy  of  sponsorship.  In  2008,  I  landed  my  first  sponsorship  from  Toytec  Lifts  and  it  planted  a  seed  in  my  head.  Little  did  I  know  these  trucks,and  the  community  itself,  would  become  such  a  big  part  of  my  life.
