Well here we go folks!  With photos being published last night and the official press release this morning, we officially have our 2016 Toyota Tacoma!

You’ll notice some sharper lines in the 3rd generation Toyota Tacoma and a focus on fuel efficiency.  Although details have not been officially released, we know Toyota has made some big changes to the Tacoma power plant and accompanying drive train.  No, we won’t be getting a diesel, but we will be seeing a slight uptick in horsepower and MPG.

2016 Tacoma Truck Redesign

Toyota took some styling cues from their previously redesigned Tundra and 4Runner in the remolding of the Tacoma front and rear body.  Tacoma will finally have a locking tailgate and its trailer plug recessed in the bumper by the license plate.  The lower trim below the front bumper is removable, but is there with a purpose, fuel efficiency.

As for options, the regular cab didn’t make the cut.  Toyota will be offering an Access Cab with a six foot bed and a Double Cab with either a five or six foot bed.  The TRD Off-Road package should be back for 2016, however, it does not appear Toyota will be offering any TRD Pro models in the first year.

With this redesign, the aftermarket industry will be forced back to the drawing board.  For those who have adapted to the new 4Runner styling, a front bumper may not be far away for the 2016.  Sizing appears to be very similar to the 2nd generation, so suspension components shouldn’t be too far away either.
