Toyota has released their December 2009 sales figures. FJ Cruiser sales continue to climb, but are not yet at their 2008 levels. From what we've heard new FJ's are still hard to find at most dealers, so most people are paying a premium for them.
For Dec 2009, Toyota reported 1,603 FJ Cruisers sold, which is down from the 2008 number by over 1,000. This brings the total 2009 FJ Cruiser sales number to 11,935, again far below the 28,688 sold in 2008. Still, it's good to see sales numbers on the rebound. In Nov 2009 Toyota reported just 1,108 FJ Cruisers sold.
Despite the re-print of a VERY old rumor on Yahoo Autos that the FJ has been discountinued, Toyota has not made any official announcements regarding the FJ Cruiser. Toyota FJ Cruiser sales are similar to the Sequoia, so we expect that they'll continue to see the FJ as a 'niche' vehicle for some time.

It looks as though the FJ Cruiser will indeed live on, at least in the land down under.
An unconfirmed report from carsguide.com.au, the Toyota FJ Cruiser is indeed headed to Australia this fall. This article states that the FJ was previewed recently at a delear convention, but Toyota has not officially commented on the FJ in Australia. We're certainly excited that our Aussie friends will finally get a proper modern off road capable FJ, and hopefully this means a bright future for our favorite vehicle in North America as well.
